overview
Verlaine Bar & Lounge, established in October, 2001 is named after Paul Verlaine, the 19th Century French Poet celebrated for his unconventional and symbolist poetry.
Their Lychee Martini rates among the best in town. And with more than 1.5 million of them served since 2001, it is easy to see how it continues to be one of the most talked about cocktails in New York City.

The goal was to create a can design that reflected the story behind the name Verlaine while showcasing the unique beverage inside. We figured that most people don't know what Lychee berries are and have never tried a Lychee martini.
In an unconventional move, I put a picture of the drink poured into a beautiful glass on the front of the can. I combined that with 19th century inspired type in a sexy swoop which adds a layer of sophistication to this premium packaging.
the Result
The bright yellow drink combined with metallic gold and ornate typography immediately grabs the customers attention, letting them know they are in for a premium twist on a classic cocktail. When I started thinking about the 4 pack box, I wanted to create a way for Verlaine to carve out a larger presence on the shelf. By designing the box to be tiled together, the big cocktail glass commands serious attention.

Michael took a draft idea I came up with for my canned RTD Lychee Martini label and he turned it into a one of a kind show stopper. I could not be happier with what he has done for us.
